Sealing Your Driveway

During the fall season, the weather conditions are just right for sealing your driveway.  The days are not too hot, and the night are not too cool.  Temperatures are ideal to apply a new seal to your driveway.

Sealing your driveway is a task you should plan to do every other year.  By sealing your driveway, whether it looks like it needs it or not, you are adding to the life of your driveway.  Odds are if you are waiting until it looks like your driveway needs sealing to actually seal it, it might be too late.

Spring and fall temperatures provide the ideal weather conditions for a smooth, tight seal.  Sealing in the summer or winter can lead to cracking or bubbles left in your driveway once the seal dries.

When applying the driveway seal, it’s best to wear old boots or sneakers, and an old pair of jeans.  If the seal gets on any part of your clothing, which it will at some point, that clothing is ruined.

To apply, best results are to spread the seal across your driveway with an old broom.  Depending on the length of your driveway, and maybe its condition, will depend on how much driveway seal you need to apply.  If you are unsure, measure your driveway and bring the measurements to the store with you and ask someone.

Ideal drying time after you apply the seal is generally 48 hours, but if need be, you may be safe to drive on it within 24-36 hours.  Walk on the driveway first just to feel it feels soft.

While it still October, the time is right for sealing the driveway.  Take care if it this weekend, or potentially pay for bigger driveway problems later.
